Midwolda is a beautiful quiet village, situated in the Oldambt in the east of the province of Groningen. The village Midwolda is part of the municipality Oldambt. Peace and quiet, plenty of space and fresh air are still taken for granted around here. Traffic jams are still unknown in this area.
The execution of the nature and recreational project Blauwestad (Blue City) will give an enormous impulse to Midwolda and its environment. In this ambitious plan the Oldambt, south-east of Midwolda, will be inundated and changed into an Oldambt archipelago. Some 1,400 high-quality houses will be built on about 32 islands and peninsulas, connected by bridges, with smaller and larger areas of water in between. Woods and nature areas will also be made. It can be compared with the Sneekermeer and the Reeuwijkse Plassen in the Netherlands.
